Wonderful raw seafood, Great selections! From boat to ice in store is the best. Great people behind the counter to help with selection . Price is good! Will highly recommend
Always enjoy O'Neal's when we're in the area. Fried scallops were tasty. Would have liked more fish choices for lunch, but understand that fresh and seasonal limits options. Will be back!
Who knew you could get lunch at a seafood market? Shrimp basket with fries and coleslaw. Very affordable. Generous serving. We sat on the outside deck on a beautiful September day. After lunch we brought shrimp and scallops to take home to Virginia and enjoy later. Staff is super nice!
Fresh off the boats, this fish market has a great variety of seafood. The people are friendly and the food is delicious. The smell inside is rough if you've never been in a fish market but there is seating outside.
THE FRESHEST FISH YOU WILL EVER HAVE. I have been coming here since 2017 and will keep coming. Do yourself a favor and get their fresh catch of the day. You will not be disappointed. The freshest fish I have ever had, and I eat a lot of fish. I refuse to make the trip and not stop here. Clearly people are catching on because the place was packed the past few times we went but it is worth the wait.
This no frills places offers the freshest seafood imaginable! I got tuna steaks that were freshly caught that morning. It was a super fast and friendly service as well. I would definitely come back if/when I travel to Outerbanks again.
My brother-in-law found O'Neal's Sea Harvest and we planned a lunch stop there while driving to the OBX. The restaurant looked somewhat unassuming from the outside but that didn't stop us! We walked in, ordered then grabbed a table on the front porch. I ordered the fried fish and shrimp basket with pickled beets and slaw. Hubby ordered the fried fish basket with onion rings and slaw. His brother ordered the soft shell crab basket with fries and slaw. Our sister-in-law ordered the fried fish basket with potato salad and slaw. Everyone absolutely loved their meal! The fried fish was flaky and super moist. The light batter was true perfection. Some of the best fried fish I've had. I throughly enjoyed the pickled beets, something not commonly seen on restaurant menus. The slaw tasted fresh, a little sweet and was chilled well. The fries were seasoned and crispy. To finish off a fantastic meal, we all shared a slice of the pineapple cake. Possibly the best item I've ever had with pineapple, it was so very delicious! So moist and flavorful with a nice amount of perfectly sweet, cream cheese icing. It was a truly spectacular meal start to finish! We would all highly recommend it.
O'Neals is hands down the best seafood we had while in OBX. So incredibly fresh and in the middle of one of the biggest seafood hubs in Wanchese. So great! Will definitely be back.
What a gem! So glad we stumbled upon this quaint seafood market and lunch counter. It is our first trip to Roanoke Island and we have spent time exploring all the nooks and crannies. The village of Wanchese, on the south end of the island, is a quiet yet bustling working waterway. There is no effort spent attracting tourists. One would choose to visit Manchese to eat some of the freshest, most delicious seafood on the outer ands and to get a true sense of the commercial fishing industry. If we were staying longer, O'Neals would be our go-to seafood market. Everything in the counter was very recently swimming in the ocean and local waterways. You know that fishy smell many places have? You won't find it here. Fresh fish smells wonderful! The lunch menu is fixed with daily specials. My husband and I shared the fried shrimp and Frisch-of-the-day, drum, basket with coleslaw, fries and onion rings. There were many sides to choose from. The picture says it all...... lightly breaded, fried to perfection, light on the seasoning which allowed all the flavors of the seafood to shine. We purchased two frozen crab cakes to take home for dinner and made a second trip to the counter to buy a slice of homemade Oreo cake (a local islander makes cakes from her 70-year old grandmother's recipe.) perfect end to a most delicious lunch. The people are authentic and welcoming. The lunch crowd I a mix of island visitors and local fisherman. The indoor dining room is clean and open, with porch seating available. We will be returning here on all our trips!
